n8n: Introducing n8n Assistant
What it is
Describe an automation in plain language and the Assistant plans it, builds it on your canvas, asks for the credentials it needs, runs it, diagnoses the failure, and iterates with you. Crucially, what you end up with is an ordinary n8n workflow, visible, hand-editable, logged per run, owned by your team rather than locked behind whoever wrote the prompt. It ships behind a preview flag and is not available on npm self-hosted installs, and n8n say plainly that the first workflow is not guaranteed to be production-ready: reviewing it before you trust it with real work is still your job.
Why we picked it
Closes the exact gap where Module 3 students stall, knowing what you want to automate but not which nodes, in what order. The post is honest about limits (it can't create accounts you don't have, and it isn't proactive), which makes it usable as teaching material rather than a sales page.
How you might use it
Your first automation is almost always simpler than you expect. The Automate Your First Workflow module helps you pick one small, repetitive task and connect it up. Start there. Run it once. Then decide what to do next.
